Neighbours of Charlie Kirk’s alleged killer Tyler Robinson have revealed the 22-year-old student was raised as a devout Mormon in Utah, where Kirk was killed earlier this week
Tyler Robinson – the man who allegedly shot Charlie Kirk – was raised a devout Mormon, despite Kirk heaping praise on the Church of the Latter-day Saints seconds before being shot. Kirk, 31, addressed the crowd at Utah Valley University: “I love how Mormons send missionaries around the world, I love how polite they are. … Half my team is Mormon.”
The right-wing firebrand added: “Mormons are great people. Let me just say, I’m an evangelical Christian, but I’m not one of those guys that hates on Mormons.” Minutes later and Kirk was dead, with gunfire erupting 200 yards away on top of a building on the campus. Now, 22-year-old Robinson has been arrested in connection with the murder, with every inch of his personal life falling under scrutiny.
Speaking to the New York Post, Robinson’s neighbour Kristin Schwiermann said the alleged killer “went to our church when he was younger.”
She added: “I was a head custodian for 18 years in at Riverside Elementary he went to Pine View High School.
“I just know that [Tyler] carried himself nicely. He was very nice. He was smart. I hear he had a full-ride scholarship [to college]. … I was shocked that this was even him.”
Robinson was apprehended last night after his father reported him to the authorities. This follows the fatal shooting of right-wing commentator Charlie Kirk at a rally in Utah on 10 September.
During a press conference earlier today, Utah’s governor, Spencer Cox, relayed to journalists that Robinson’s flatmate had uncovered Discord messages in which Tyler discussed the weapon purportedly used in the killing.
The flatmate informed police that Robinson had talked about the inscriptions on the bullets, which bore the phrases: “If you’re reading this, you’re gay lmao” and “hey fascist! Catch this!” These were references to the popular video game, Helldivers 2.
The app messages also detailed Robinson’s actions following the alleged murder, including how he wrapped the rifle in a towel and hid it in a bush. Authorities further claim that Robinson stated on the app that he utilised a scope on the rifle and changed his attire.
Robinson was arrested two days after Kirk, a 31 year old father of two, Trump advocate and co-founder of youth organisation Turning Point USA, was shot dead at a debate at Utah Valley University in what officials are calling a politically motivated killing.
Reports indicate that Robinson’s own father, believed to be a former police officer, turned him in. The announcement of the arrest was made by US President Donald Trump on Fox News, who stated with a “high degree of certainty” that the young man in custody is the alleged shooter.
