Ness has returned to Loch Ness after a summer holiday hiatus. Official recorders said a two-minute clip of “something” lurking in the water was seen this week.

The Official Loch Ness Monster Sightings Register spotted the suspcious sighting on Friday, the first time she has been seen in three months. It said: “A long time local resident shot a two minute video of something just under the water near Lochend.

“It was at 9.15am in calm clear conditions. They said they had lived by the loch for 30 years and had never seen anything like this before. It caused an unusual disturbance pattern on the surface of the water.”

The person who spotted the mythical beast on August 29 shared a still from the footage. It comes after a shy summer for Nessie, who was last seen three months ago on May 23.

A visitor to the area said he was watching a small motor boat Urqhart Bay when he saw something unusual. The report stated: “When he checked it out through binoculars he spotted something long and thin pop up in the boat’s wake.

“It vanished a few times but he managed to catch it on film.” The first sighting of Nessie this year was noted on the register in March 22 by a couple from London.

One said: “It was paler than the jet-black water around it, but in the gloom it was impossible to determine a hue. “It was large and alive and swimming in the water – it was what I can only describe as a ‘hump’ (as people often say) kind of like if a large seal or walrus was swimming in the water but for some reason it’s head was hidden, like just it’s back was exposed.

“Kind of graceful but very slow moving like two to three metres per second. It was too dark to pick out detail on it, but it wasn’t uniform, there was texture there but hard to pinpoint what exactly.

“And as we watched I realised that there was a second mass in its wake, perhaps it was hidden by the wake at first, or it had risen up as it moved – it was roughly the same size and shape as the leading mass but perhaps lower in the water.

“There was maybe one and a half to two metres gap between the humps from my line of sight.

“It moved very gracefully and silently. Later when we talked about it, my partner told me that from her vantage point it was clear that the two humps were on one creature, that it was one long creature.”
