Oceans Eleven actor Michael DeLano has died aged 84 after a heart attack. DeLano passed away in hospital in Las Vegas, his wife Jean has said.

DeLano played a casino manager in heist film Ocean’s Eleven in 2001, reprising his role for the sequel Ocean’s Twelve three years later. He was also in Commando, the 1985 film starring Arnold Schwarzenegger, playing car salesman Forrestal who meets a memorable end.

He got his big TV breaks in the US in the 1970s, playing Johnny Venture in Rhoda, and LA firefighter Sonny Caputo in Firehouse. DeLano also had small roles in shows such as The A-Team, The Rockford Files, Wonder Woman, Starsky & Hutch, Charlie’s Angels, Taxi, Private Benjamin, Cagney & Lacey and Hill Street Blues.

Also a talented singer, in more recent years he was a regular performer at old-school jazz bar the Dispensary Lounge on Tropicana Avenue in his home city of Las Vegas, where he had lived since 1992. A celebration of his life will take place at the Dispensary Lounge on Sunday.

DeLano died on October 20, his wife Jean told The Hollywood Reporter. He and Jean were married for 28 years, and he also leaves behind his daughter, Bree; grandsons Michael and Lincoln; and granddaughter Jaxon.

DeLano – real name Michael Ace Del Fatti – was born in Virginia on November 26, 1940. His dad was a pilot, but tragically passed away before DeLano was born.

DeLano was raised in Philadelphia, and served as a paratrooper in the US Army.

He received fan-mail while he was a regular dancer on Dick Clark’s American Bandstand, according to The Hollywood Reporter. In 1960, he was signed to Swan Records as Key Larson and recorded the songs “A Web of Lies” and “A Little Lovin’ Goes a Long, Long Way.” Later, he adopted the stage surname DeLano after seeing a blinking neon sign on a hotel with that name.

After appearing in a stage production of Hair in Chicago, DeLano moved to Hollywood and appeared in the films Catlow (1971) and The New Centurions (1972) and on episodes of Adam-12, Kojak, Banacek and Barnaby Jones before landing the part on Firehouse.
