Lady Taylor of Stevenage stood up in the House of Lords and claimed the Gallagher brothers will perform five back-to-back anniversary gigs at the iconic venue next year

Some might say a British peer has let slip one of music’s biggest secrets – by revealing Oasis will play Knebworth next summer. Lady Taylor of Stevenage stood up in the House of Lords and claimed the Gallagher brothers will perform five back-to-back anniversary gigs at the iconic venue next year.

In 2026 it will be 30 years since the band’s first legendary gigs at the Hertfordshire venue which sold out in less than 24 hours with 2% of Brits applying for tickets. The peer said: “Next July I have the benefit of five days of Oasis concerts in the fantastic venue of Knebworth House, which is just about a mile from my house.

“I can hear and enjoy from my house. And they represent the important cultural role of music venues and make an enormous contribution to our economy.”

She dropped the clanger in a planning debate. The Labour peer was discussing the decline of music venues and making the point newer bands were finding it harder to move from local gigs to stadium concerts.

Hours later Lady Taylor rowed back on what she had said in the chamber as legions of delighted Oasis fans’ swapped the news on the internet.

She said: “I was speaking hypothetically following speculation that they would play Knebworth again as they did in August 1996.

“I understand the band have not confirmed this.” The band’s management was said to be unaware of the suggested five-night run.

But fans suggested the peer had accidentally revealed Oasis’s top secret plans. The current occupant of the property – Henry Lytton-Cobbold – invited the band to play an anniversary gig in 2024.

One fan wrote online: “Knebworth’s on. Amazing. There is no way this ends up in Parliament unless it’s happening. They’ll have to announce.”

Another said: “Can’t wait. Was there in 96 – think they’re better now.” “Hilarious how this has got out,” said one more. “You just can’t trust these politicians.”

Despite band management denials bookmakers made them odds-on to take to the Knebworth stage for anniversary gigs. The concerts would be seismic music moments akin to the Beatles’ rooftop gigs or Freddie Mercury’s performance at Live Aid.

Oasis had not responded to a request for comment.
