A Premier League footballer’s dad has reportedly been charged with a sex attack in a Wetherspoons bar and is due to appear in a magistrates’ court
The dad of a Premier League footballer has reportedly been charged with a sex attack in a Wetherspoon bar.
The man, 60, has not been named, and neither has his famous son. He is accused of touching a woman inappropriately during a night out at the cut-price bar chain.
According to a report by The Sun, the man was wanted by police after a woman lodged a complaint in March. He was questioned by police for several hours after handing himself in, and has now been charged with sexual assault.
They say the man is claimed to have approached the woman from behind and touched her inappropriately.
The woman was said to have been left “shaken” by the incident.
He is said to have handed himself in and was later released on bail after being interviewed. But he has since been charged and will appear at Sheffield Magistrates’ Court next month.
A spokesman for the Crown Prosecution Service confirmed that the man had been charged with a single count of sexual assault.
A source is quoted in the report as telling the outlet: “It’s a huge shock for everyone. He was out with family on the night in question and denies any wrongdoing.
“He has co-operated with the police throughout and has been floored by the decision to charge him. He’s never been in trouble with the police before.”
