Premier League icon Robbie Fowler has slammed Manchester United striker Benjamin Sesko – branding him as someone who ‘looks like an academy player’

Premier League icon Robbie Fowler has slammed Benjamin Sesko after his move to the Red Devils this summer.

Sesko swapped RB Leipzig for Manchester United over the summer, but Fowler hasn’t been impressed with his performances at Old Trafford – who are starting to find their feet again under Ruben Amorim.

Fowler admitted Sesko hasn’t adapted to the league – instead pointing to Viktor Gyokeres as the better summer signing. Speaking to Adventure Gamers, the Liverpool icon said: “For me I think the obvious one is Gyokeres.

“He’s probably better suited to the Premier League and he understands what is needed in terms of speed, energy and commitment. Whereas Sesko has probably struggled a little at times.

“He looks a little bit, I hope this doesn’t come across wrong, but he looks a bit of an academy player. I have no doubt he’s a good player.

“No one’s questioning his ability, but at the minute I think out of those two it’s Gyokeres by far who looks better equipped.”

Sesko has found the net twice this season in the Premier League – against Brentford and Sunderland – with an assist against Brighton.

However, Sesko looks set for some time on the sidelines after he hobbled off against Spurs before the international break.

However, when it comes to naming the best current striker in the league, Fowler was quick to name Erling Haaland – who he has tipped to beat Alan Shearer’s record: ”If he stays at Manchester City, I think he will beat it.

“But that’s the million dollar question, isn’t it? Will he stay? I think he’s in pole position to get past Alan Shearer’s record. Shearer’s record is phenomenal, isn’t it?

“But the rate at which Erling Haaland scores goals, then you’re thinking yeah that really could be in danger. It genuinely could.

“We’ve seen it this year, he’s got 14 goals in 11 games. So yes the rate at which he’s going, if he stays at City then he absolutely can do it.”
