Prince Harry met with the King for a ‘distinctly formal’ gathering at Clarence House earlier this month, marking the first time the pair met face-to-face since February last year
Prince Harry was “taken by surprise” when his plans to return to Royal life were blocked by King Charles.
The royal visited UK for a four-day tour earlier this month and met the King at Clarence House for their first face-to-face catch up in 18 months.
The 53-minute reunion, which was meant to repair the duo’s strained relationship, surprised Harry who was taken back by the formalities and jokes about feeling more like an official visitor than family member.
Royal insiders claimed the pair chatted in a similar style used by the King for interacts with dignitaries and visitors at royal residences.
Prince Harry presented the King with a framed photo of himself, Meghan and their two kids, Archie and Lilibet. The King hasn’t seen his grandchildren since the Platinum Jubilee in June 2022. Harry claims it’s not safe for them to fly back to the UK.
The King also gave Harry a gift of his own to celebrate the royal’s 41st birthday but there are reportedly no plans for the pair to be seen in public together or for Harry to return for a “half-in, half-out” hybrid role.
A spokesperson for Harry told The Sun: “The trip back was about focusing on his patronages and supporting his good causes while also having time to catch up with family and friends.”
The last time Harry saw the King face-to-face was in February 2024 when the Duke made a transatlantic trip to the UK following the King’s cancer diagnosis.
Harry did not meet with Prince William during the visit amid an ongoing row between the two, which shows no signs of abating.
It was also claimed the meeting was an attempt to cause a split between the King and Prince William. A spokesperson for Harry “categorically” denied the claim and insisted Harry is “not trying to drive a wedge” between William and Charles.
Harry has previous said he wants to improve relations with his family but admits chances are slim after his public accusations against them.
Harry stepped down from Royal life in 2020 and has since shared a number of devastating accusation about Kate, William, Charles and his stepmother, Queens Camilla in interview with Oprah Winfrey, as well in his autobiography Spare and in a Netflix documentary.
