The Prince of Wales can see the massive damage being caused to the Royal Family’s reputation by the ‘Andrew problem’ and is understood to be much more unrelenting that his dad

Prince William has been described as “ruthless” in his dealings with Prince Andrew as he begins to “call the shots” within the Royal Family.

Last Friday, Andrew released a statement announcing that he was giving up his Duke of York title and honours to avoid detracting from the work of King Charles and the Royal Family. There have been longstanding demands for Andrew to be stripped of his dukedom due to the ongoing controversy surrounding his connections to convicted sex offender Epstein.

King Charles has already decreed that Andrew will no longer join the Royal family for Christmas Day service – and the latter’s recent statement is seen as the final ostracisation of the prince following years of scandal.

It is believed that the Prince of Wales was consulted on the decision leading to Andrew surrendering his titles and honours – and now Royal historian Andrew Lownie has made fresh claims about the heir’s relationship with his uncle.

Speaking to the Channel 4 News last night he suggested that William “is beginning to call the shots” as his father, the King, continues his fight against cancer.

Ms Lownie stated: “He’s much more ruthless than his father and I think he can see the huge reputational damage that’s been done,” reports the Express.

“One of the reasons for the timing is that people are starting to criticise the King for being too weak. I think they realised they needed to do something.”

The Sunday Times has echoed similar reports, suggesting the heir is “not satisfied with the outcome” and will adopt a “more ruthless” approach when he ascends to the throne.

The newspaper alleges that William is aware that the ‘Andrew problem’ will inevitably land on his desk.

This comes as extracts from an upcoming posthumous memoir by Virginia Roberts Giuffre have been released. Giuffre has claimed she was trafficked by Epstein and forced into sexual relations with Andrew when she was just 17.

Andrew withdrew from public duties in 2019 and has vehemently denied any wrongdoing.

In a statement, he announced: “With His Majesty’s agreement, we feel I must now go a step further. I will therefore no longer use my title or the honours which have been conferred upon me. As I have said previously, I vigorously deny the accusations against me.”

Giuffre tragically took her own life in April. In her memoir, she recounts alleged encounters with Prince Andrew, whom she sued in 2021, alleging they had sex when she was 17.

Andrew has consistently refuted her allegations, and the lawsuit was settled in 2022.
