Vladimir Putin’s ex-mistress, former Olympic gymnast Alina Kabaeva, has shocked fans by unveiling a dramatically puffier and less defined face, sparking wild rumours of botched plastic surgery
Vladimir Putin’s ex-mistress has stunned fans after allegedly undergoing a botched plastic surgery. Former Olympic gymnast Alina Kabaeva reportedly debuted a noticeably puffier and less defined face.
The 42-year-old renowned athlete, once celebrated for her natural beauty and sporting achievements, has undergone a striking transformation in recent years. Known for her expressive features and radiant charm during her gymnastics career, Kabaeva’s appearance has changed noticeably since she stepped away from the spotlight and ventured into politics.
According to recent photographs, her once soft and lively face now appears fuller and more rigid, with noticeably plumper lips and a puffy complexion, leading to widespread speculation about cosmetic enhancements.
Online rumours have been circulating about Kabaeva falling victim to botched plastic surgery, according to Ukrainian outlet Telegraf. But plastic surgeon Dmitry Slosser has insisted her dramatic new look is actually down to an overload of fillers and hyaluronic acid.
He told Telegraf that Kabaeva’s naturally broad face and strong bone structure, combined with age and too many beauty injections, have given her a “moon-like” appearance, smooth, but missing the definition she once had. This type of undesirable effect is not uncommon with excessive use of dermal fillers.
Moreover, using too much dermal filler, particularly in the cheeks and under-eye areas, can cause an overly plump, round appearance often referred to as “pillow face”, which is a form of an artificial “moon face” look. This is a well-known, though avoidable, consequence of overfilling.
Kabaeva was a rising star in gymnastics back in 2001 when Putin, then aged 49, attended an event where she was performing. The autocratic Russian leader clearly took a shine to the sportswoman and managed to get her contact details, likely through an agent, the Daily Star previously reported.
By 2006, whispers of an affair between the two began to circulate. At the time, Kabaeva was dating David Museliani, a law enforcement officer 15 years her senior.
In April 2008, Russian newspaper Moskovsky Korrespondent reported that Kabaeva was engaged to Putin, but the news was swiftly denied and the paper soon shut down. Since 2008, the gymnast has kept her personal life private.
According to Russian outlet Telegraf, rumours have been swirling online for years that the athlete has already had several children with Putin. As for Kabaeva’s former flame Museliani, the pair called it quits shortly after the Putin speculation emerged.
He reportedly abandoned law enforcement and pivoted to property in Moscow, launching his own agency. Yet by 2022, as the Daily Mail revealed, Kabaeva’s ex-partner found himself in the crosshairs of Russian intelligence services.
The Russian Investigative Committee charged Museliani with siphoning off public money linked to sabotage at Arctic harbours, landing him on Russia’s international wanted list.
