Sarah Ferguson and Andrew Mountbatten Windsor’s marriage was rocked by scandal, with the Duchess of York’s toe-sucking antics with her lover John Bryan the final nail in the coffin
Sarah Ferguson and Andrew Mountbatten Windsor once proudly declared themselves the ‘happiest divorced couple ever,’ yet their marriage was undeniably plagued by numerous scandals.
Fergie’s notorious toe-sucking photographs with her American beau John Bryan delivered the death blow to the couple’s union, though new revelations have surfaced regarding supposed affairs on both sides, with Andrew reportedly bedding more than a dozen women during his first year of marriage to Sarah.
Despite the purported unfaithfulness from both parties, Andrew and Sarah have maintained their bond throughout the years – even as various controversies resulted in Fergie being exiled from the Royal inner sanctum for an extended period.
Although she had fallen “head over heels” for her clandestine lover John Bryan, Sarah was reportedly left “hysterical” when Andrew telephoned to inform her of their separation – and he allegedly claimed the choice wasn’t his own.
Whilst Fergie may have been heartbroken that her fairy tale with Andrew was reaching its conclusion, her affair with Bryan is said to have unfolded right under his nose, with the former prince completely oblivious that his wife’s paramour was residing in their family home alongside them. In his memoir ‘Fergie – Her Secret Life,’ former confidant Dr Allan Starkie alleged that Andrew, oblivious to his wife’s affair, still shared their marital bedroom at Sunninghill Park, the Windsor residence presented to them by the Queen, reports the Mirror.
The writer claims that Bryan had positioned himself as something of a commercial adviser to Sarah, seeking to boost profits from her children’s publication Budgie the Helicopter.
According to the Daily Mail: “When John Bryan came to stay at Sunninghill, he and Sarah would indulge in sex acts in Andrew’s study after the prince had gone to bed. She didn’t care. ‘Vulgar, vulgar, vulgar,’ stormed the Queen’s former private secretary, Lord Charteris.”
Meanwhile, a bombshell biography of Andrew and Sarah published this summer – ‘Entitled: The Rise and Fall of the House of York’ by Andrew Lownie – suggested that when the Bryan scandal became public knowledge, the former duchess faced a furious dressing-down from her sister-in-law, Princess Anne, during dinner, with nobody defending Fergie against Anne’s wrath.
“There was not one voice raised against Anne. Andrew’s anger melted into sadness, and he buried himself in the special reports compiled for the Queen, which she did not hesitate to let him read.”
One member of staff, who alleged to have witnessed Sarah being summoned before the late Queen, was quoted as stating: “She acted in the strangest way. You would have thought she was the person wronged, as if she had every right to go on holiday with another man, kiss and cuddle him, and the only person who had behaved wrongly were the photographer and the editors of the newspapers who had published the pictures.”
The former pair continue to share Royal Lodge, but with both preparing to bid farewell to their longtime residence near Windsor Castle, they are finally parting ways. Scandal-hit Andrew will be relocating to a property on King Charles’ private Norfolk estate – Sandringham – though Fergie’s future destination remains unconfirmed.
