The 11-year-old girl was rushed to hospital on Sunday after falling ill at her family home in Helensburgh, Argyll and Bute before tragically passing away on Monday

An investigation has been launched by police following the tragic death of a young Scottish schoolgirl in what is believed to be a drug-related incident.

The 11-year-old was hurriedly taken by ambulance to the Royal Hospital for Children in Glasgow on Sunday (November 16) after she became unwell at her family home in Helensburgh on Friday.

Her condition rapidly worsened, causing increasing concern amongst her family.

Police Scotland have initiated an inquiry into the girl’s tragic passing.

A spokesperson for the force stated: “Around 11.40am on Monday, November 17, we received a report of an 11-year-old girl taken unwell in the Helensburgh area.

“She had been taken to the Royal Hospital for Children in Glasgow on Sunday, November 16, and died on Monday, November 17. The death is being treated as unexplained and enquiries are ongoing to establish the full circumstances.”

Argyll and Bute Council confirmed that they are providing support to the heartbroken family, as well as fellow pupils and staff at Hermitage Academy, reports the Mirror.

A council spokesperson expressed: “We are devastated to hear about the death of one of our pupils who attended Hermitage Academy in Helensburgh. Our thoughts are with their family and friends at this awful time.

We are providing ongoing support to their family along with staff and pupils at the school.”

An outpouring of tributes for the young girl has been seen online, with one individual posting: “I don’t actually know what to say here and no words make it better. Shocked is an understatement.

“I’m just so sorry for your loss, she was a beautiful girl.”

Another shared: “Our hearts are broken for your family. I can’t even find the words to describe how we are feeling right now, so I can’t imagine how you as a family are feeling losing.

“She is a massive loss. I only knew her for the past year and she was beautiful, respectful and so caring. Heaven has gained a beautiful angel way too soon.”
