A much-loved skip boss has tragically died after an industrial accident at his family’s depot in Norfolk, with workers saying from a nearby business ‘everything went quiet’

A man died in a horrific industrial workplace accident at a depot in Norfolk, an investigation has revealed. Skip boss Daniel Wenn, 35, tragically died after he was caught in a waste sorting machine. Responding paramedics pronounced Daniel dead at the Norman Wenn Skip Hire site at 9am on Monday.

Employees at a neighbouring business reported hearing screams and shouts before an eerie silence fell as the catastrophe took place. Initial findings from an investigation conducted by the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) found Daniel was “entangled in a trommel screen and sustained fatal traumatic injuries”.

A trommel screen is a large rotating cylindrical drum designed to sort materials by size. The Health and Safety Executive has now teamed up with Norfolk Constabulary to launch an investigation into the incident.

Daniel was at the helm of the business, which was established by his father Norman in 1985. Known in the local area for his strong work ethic and affable nature, he had earned a solid reputation in the waste management industry.

Heartfelt tributes have been flooding in for the 35 year old, who is understood to have been a father, and was described by those who knew him as a “lovely guy”.

Floral tributes were placed outside the depot yesterday afternoon. A neighbour, who claimed to be close to the Wenn family, remembered Daniel as a “technical young lad”, who was “very educated”.

Another described him as a “lovely guy,” labelling the incident as a “sheer tragedy”.

A local woman expressed her sorrow: “It’s just terrible news, especially because he was such a young person. When it’s a younger generation with a young family it’s just awful”.

In a heartfelt Facebook tribute to Daniel, one individual wrote: “My heart goes out to Dan’s family and friends – he was an incredible person who left a lasting impact on everyone he met, and his passion for racing was contagious.”

Another shared: “Really sad news, top driver, great customer and all round smashing lad. Thoughts go out to all the family at this difficult time.”

Earlier this month it was revealed a grieving widow is preparing to take legal action against a major utility company following the tragic electrocution of her husband while he was trimming hedges.

Blair Campbell, a 35-year-old gardener, lost his life when he accidentally severed a wire connected to a substation. The heartbreaking incident occurred three years ago this week, and Blair’s widow, Tina, claims she has yet to receive an apology or compensation from SP Energy Networks – a subsidiary of Scottish Power – who were responsible for the operation of the substation.
