Strictly Come Dancing viewers claimed they spotted Katya Jones signalling moves to Lewis Cope during the new challenge

Strictly Come Dancing viewers were quick to accuse one couple of “cheating” after spotting a telling clue.

During Saturday (November 29) night’s episode of the BBC favourite, the competition unveiled a fresh challenge that required couples to perform an impromptu dance for the opportunity to secure additional points.

The duo were spotted leading the current Strictly leaderboard following the inaugural Instant Dance challenge. The programme kicked off as usual, with each pairing delivering their prepared routines, and Emmerdale star Lewis Cope alongside professional partner Katya Jones once again dazzled with their rumba to Harry Styles’ Falling, reports the Express.

They secured 36 points from the panel, hot on the heels of last weekend’s flawless performance in Blackpool, with head judge Shirley Ballas commenting: “I love the chemistry, I love the narrative, and I love the way you told the whole story. So for me, I would say this is one of the very, very good rumbas. Well done.”

Yet their stint on the dance floor wasn’t finished, as near the programme’s conclusion, they returned to discover which routine they’d need to execute alongside the chosen track for the Instant Dance challenge.

The surprise dance put their expertise to the test, as it featured a style they’d mastered during the series and was disclosed in an envelope they’d selected the previous week but hadn’t opened until the live broadcast.

The contestants were given 15 seconds to select a costume, swiftly change backstage, and then had only ten seconds to decide their dance performance. The judges then scored each performance, with the best receiving six points and the worst just one.

Shirley stated it was a tight race for first place, but awarded the victory to Lewis and Katta, who “took chances” with their jive, earning an extra six points.

However, some observant viewers were quick to point out Katya, who they believe they saw giving her partner instructions before the allotted time.

One viewer posted on X, “Katya was signalling to Lewis about what moves to do when they were on the stairs. But they were not allowed to until the 10 second count down. #StrictlyComeDancing #strictly.”

@Jimbo1984 pointed out: “So much for the professionals not talking to celeb before the 10 seconds. Katya showed Lewis the leg move to do whilst on stairs and Nikita and Amber were shouting across stairs to each other before Karen danced. Surely that’s breaking the rules of this challenge. #strictly.”

But @slinehan1 countered: “LEWIS AND KATYA DID NOT CHEAT IN THE INSTANT DANCE CHALLENGE!! It was never said that the couples couldn’t signal to each other on the stairs!!

“You’re all just bitter that he’s the best dancer and it’s pathetic trying to bring him down like that. #Strictly #StrictlyComeDancing.”

Strictly Come Dancing will be back on Saturday at 6.55pm on BBC One and BBC iPlayer.
