Amber Davies has been announced as the new female celebrity on Strictly Come Dancing 2025, but some fans have raised concerns over the new signing
Former Love Island champion Amber Davies has been confirmed for the 2025 Strictly Come Dancing roster – though some viewers are raising questions about the hectic star’s suitability. The reality television personality, who triumphed on the ITV2 romance show alongside Kem Cetinay back in 2017, steps in to replace fellow Love Island graduate Dani Dyer-Bowen following her withdrawal from the BBC dance competition this week due to an ankle fracture sustained during practice sessions.
Amber, who’ll be paired with Nikita Kuzmin, revealed: “This has been the craziest 24 hours of my life. I’ve watched Strictly with my family since I was younger and to now be part of the show is a dream come true. I’m going to give it my all and I am sending Dani well wishes for a speedy recovery. I hope I do her proud.”
Amber’s appointment has sparked debate amongst viewers due to her professional background.
Following her Love Island victory nearly a decade ago, Amber has been pursuing stage work and musical theatre careers – most recently securing the lead role of Elle Woods in a fresh staging of Legally Blonde The Musical, reports the Mirror.
“As much as I love Amber she’s another trained dancer (yes I know she’s not trained in ballroom) but still has rhythm and dance experience lol,” one viewer questioned following Amber’s Strictly confirmation.
Another sceptical fan pondered: “Amber Davies is a professional dancer no? How is that fair?” However, most commentators were thrilled to see Amber announced as Dani’s replacement. As the news emerged, one wrote on X, formerly Twitter: “AMBER DAVIES STEPPING IN TO DANCE WITH NIKITA?? This couldn’t get any f****** better for me ohhhhh my god a ringer and musical theatre girlie with my fav pro LET’S WIN STRICTLY!!”
“Amber Davies going on Strictly was not on my bingo card, but I ain’t mad about it,” another commented, with a third exclaiming: “AMBER DAVIES DOING STRICTLY OH MOTHER.”
“Amber Davies world domination,” read another enthusiastic response as others expressed worries about Amber’s jam-packed schedule. Highlighting how in-demand the reality TV star is, one joked: “Not Amber being in both Strictly rehearsals AND Legally rehearsals?”
Amber’s role in the new production of Legally Blonde musical was revealed earlier this week. The musical will tour the UK and Ireland next year, beginning at Leicester’s Curve Theatre on February 7.
Amber has pursued a musical theatre career since triumphing in the third series of ITV show Love Island in 2017. Her latest roles include Jordan Baker in the London production of The Great Gatsby, Vivian Ward in the UK tour of Pretty Woman and Lorraine Baines in the West End production of Back To The Future The Musical.
“I’m absolutely thrilled to be playing the iconic role of Elle Woods in ROYO and Curve’s new production of Legally Blonde,” Amber announced on Monday. “As a huge fan of the film and the musical, this part is the role of a lifetime, and I am honoured to be stepping into Elle’s perfect heels.”
The multi-award winning Legally Blonde The Musical, based on Amanda Browning’s novel and the 2001 film starring Reese Witherspoon and Jennifer Coolidge, boasts original music and lyrics by Laurence O’Keefe and Nell Benjamin.
Amber further expressed her excitement: “I have always wanted to work with the incredible theatrical mind that is Nikolai Foster, and I am so excited to hit the road again and bring Laurence O’Keefe’s incredible score back to the UK!”
