Neighbours star Stefan Dennis has been forced to pull out of Strictly Come Dancing this week due to illness, and his wife has now detailed a health scare he suffered last year
Strictly Come Dancing star Stefan Dennis’ wife has disclosed the “frantic call” she got following a health emergency he previously endured.
Neighbours star Stefan, 66, and his professional dance partner Dianne Buswell have had to withdraw from Strictly this week owing to sickness.
The actor was due to grace the dance floor for the third live programme, with guest coach Cynthia Erivo making a special appearance for Movie Week, but just 13 celebrities took part tonight, with Stefan’s absence acknowledged.
The BBC issued a statement earlier this week, which read: “Due to illness over the past few days, Stefan Dennis has been advised by doctors to rest and, as a result, he will not dance this weekend.

“In line with the rules of Strictly, Stefan and Dianne will receive a bye through to next week when they will hopefully be able to dance again,” reports Wales Online.
Stefan also shared on social media: “A huge cheers and thanks to everyone who has been supporting myself and Dianne.
“So sorry to disappoint for tomorrow night but I expect to be back on deck with a full recovery and a rip roaring dance next week to make up.”
Following his post, his wife Gail shared her support for Stefan, and revealed a health scare he suffered last year.
She wrote: “A year ago, almost to the day, I got a frantic call from @neighbours, saying that Stefan was being rushed to emergency.
“Then this week … a frantic call came again. Thankfully he will be ok but I know he will be so sad and extremely disappointed that he can’t perform this week on @strictly.. but believe me these two moments have been the only things that have kept him from going to work! He is such a super trouper.
“So please rest up darling, your body is shouting at you again. Make sure you listen!”
Neither Gail nor Stefan have given further details about his health scare last year that saw him rushed to emergency.
Meanwhile, Stefan’s dance partner Dianne – who is making history as the first professional dancer taking part in the show while pregnant – also shared her support for him, and dismissed rumours about his absence being a “cover up”.
She said: “Just to clarify as I have had lots of people msg me thinking this is a cover up for me not being able to dance!? Firstly we wouldn’t lie especially about someone being sick!
“And secondly I am fine yes I am pregnant but I’m also very capable and feeling really good!”
She continued: “Thirdly there are things in place if any pros were to get sick or injured.”
Dianne – who lifted the Glitterball trophy with Chris McCausland last year – is expecting her first child with YouTuber Joe Sugg, who she met on Strictly in 2018.
After being announced as part of the line-up this year on Strictly, Stefan admitted he had no dance experience but was attempting to learn from Gail, who is a professional dancer.
He said: “Gail is a professional dancer, she’s been trying to teach me in the most frustrating way I’m sure because I’ve just been burying my head in the sand.”
The couple first met while performing together in a pantomime in London, and tied the knot in May 2000 and welcoming three children.
Strictly Come Dancing is available to watch on BBC iPlayer.
