A new super-strong generation of blood sucking bed bugs that can’t be killed is invading the UK. Pest experts have warned that millions are no longer being killed off by chemical treatments.

And they are reproducing pest-repellent proof babies that are also resistant to the usual methods. James Rhodes, Pest Expert at ThermoPest, said: “We’re finding that bed bugs are becoming resistant to even professional-grade insecticides.

“The ones that survive are the hardiest, and when they breed, they pass on that resilience to the next generation. Over time, this cycle creates a population of bed bugs that are significantly less affected by insecticides than before.

“It’s a gradual process, but once resistance builds up. Chemicals are no longer a reliable solution.”

This is not the first time that an invasive species of bugs have been found to be making their way to the UK, after a swarm of foul-smelling ants appeared to land on British shores.

The bugs — known as Tapinoma magnum — have ben wreaking havoc across Europe in so-called “supercolonies”, but could now be reaching the UK after careless insect collectors have been seen throwing them away.

While many may not see insects as causing too much damage to the human world, the Tapinoma magnum have caused disruption to hundreds of people.

The ants have been spotted gnawing their way through power supplies, and even decimating roads as they plough through the ground underneath big cities.
