Surfing’s answer to Kim Kardashian received death threats after she was wrongly accused of “pooping in a sacred lake” after a social media rumor’s spread like wildfire

Surfing’s answer to Kim Kardashian received death threats after she was wrongly accused of “pooping in a sacred lake”.

Ellie-Jean Coffey shared a clip last week on her social media while releveling herself off the side of her boat in Western Australia’s rugged Kimberley region with a crocodile just meters away.

“A croc almost got me,” she joked in the caption. However, after the video went viral in India, Ellie-Jean started to receive death threats.

Social media warriors accused the Aussie surfer of defecating in a lake near the city of Udaipur, which was described as “a sacred and scenic site” by an Indian news outlets.

“I started getting comments from people questioning whether I was in India but I didn’t know what was going on, so I just left it,” she told Australian media.

“I’ve had people telling me I should be deported from India – and I’ve never even been there…’I would just never do that!”

“It’s so wild how fast a lie can spread online. I can’t believe it spun out of control like that.”

She has since edited the caption on her social media pages: “I’m setting the record straight: I’m Australian: this is the Aussie outback: IT WAS NOT IN INDIA!”

She added the video only shows her urinating, and it was recorded by a friend who thought it would be a bit of light-hearted fun.

The surfing star was on a nine-month trip from Tweed Heads on the NSW/Queensland border when the clip was taken.

“There was a 1.52-metre crocodile nearby so I took the risk and went, while keeping my eye on it,” she said, before explaining that other passengers on the boat usually relieve themselves when they’re in port or by using a bucket.

Ellie-Jean has earned comparisons to the Kardashians down under, thanks to her Instagram content and close relationship with fellow social media famous sisters.

Talking back in 2017, Ellie-Jean joked: “We obviously can see why we’re compared because of the whole family unit.

“But, obviously we’re talented – and not fabulously wealthy.”
