Ieuan Crump, 27, was found guilty of nine charges of sexual assault, including three counts of assault by penetration while working as a trainee at Grange Hospital in Cwmbran
An NHS employee has been convicted of sexually assaulting two patients at a hospital in Wales. Ieuan Crump, 27, was employed as a trainee health worker at the Grange Hospital in Cwmbran in August 2021.
Crump, from Gwerthonor Lane, Gilfach, Caerphilly, assaulted two separate patients on different occasions while conducting bladder scans as part of his duties. During the trial at Cardiff Crown Court, the jury heard testimony from one of the victims who claimed that Crump sexually assaulted her with his finger while a female health worker was attempting to insert a catheter into her bladder.
Crump later returned to the room alone, without his female colleague, claiming he needed to check for any swelling. He then repeated the previous sexual assault.
A second victim recounted how Crump touched her genitals during a bladder scan and asked if they were sore. He also spread her legs during the procedure, reports Wales Online.
In court, it was suggested to Crump that he “targeted two vulnerable women” and chose not to wear gloves during examinations. He refuted these allegations, insisting he wore the necessary PPE at all times.
Despite denying all charges against him and being described as a “man of impeccable character” by his defence barrister Marian Lewis, the jury returned unanimous guilty verdicts after less than three hours of deliberation on Wednesday, November 19.
Crump was convicted on nine counts of sexual assault, including three instances of assault by penetration. Judge Vanessa Francis granted Crump bail until his sentencing but warned him directly: “Inevitably, I am going to be giving you a prison sentence of some length.”
Crump will also be required to sign the sex offenders’ register provisionally until his sentencing hearing, scheduled for December 18.
Crump had previously stood trial for the same offences in 2024, but the proceedings fell apart after more than two weeks.
