After months of in-fighting and a bitter war of words, President Donald Trump and Tesla CEO Elon Musk set aside their differences to remember Charlie Kirk
As 1000s of Conservative Americans came together on Sunday to celebrate the life of murdered commentator and activist Charlie Kirk, US President Donald Trump and tech mogul Elon Musk came face to face after their public fall out earlier this year.
In unexpected scenes, both men were caught on camera shaking hands and putting aside their differences, before sitting down together as the memorial service got underway.
The scenes showed a far warmer reception than the pair showed each other earlier this year, following their intense public spat that led to the decimation of a once fairly substantial friendship.
The feud initially came to focus in the spring after Musk publicly criticised the “One Big Beautiful” bill, which he described as a “disgusting abomination”, posting: “Shame on those who voted for it: you know you did wrong.”
Musk had argued that the bill would not cut taxes as Trump had promised, but would actually increase the national deficit, a claim the President always refuted.
The bill was passed by Congress and signed into law in July.
In a tense exchange at the time, Musk, who also briefly served as the head of the Department of Government Efficiency, argued that Trump would not have won back the White House, and Trump threatened to cancel the federal contracts held by Musk’s companies.
Backtracking once he had cooled off, Musk did publicly admit that he regretted some of his less than amicable comments about the President, but even despite this, the pair have been on frosty terms for much of the year.
Brought together by the loss of Charlie Kirk, both Trump and Musk appeared to be comfortable with each other and on friendly terms as they sat down to celebrate the life of the conservative activist.
Charlie Kirk was gunned down in broad daylight while debating students at a university in Utah on September 10.
His alleged killer, 22 year old Tyler Robinson is currently in custody, charged with aggravated murder, felony discharge of a firearm causing serious bodily injury, two counts of obstruction of justice, two counts of witness tampering, and commission of a violent offence in the presence of a child.
If convicted, he could potentially face America’s harshest punishment – the death penalty.
