Emilio Sueños, 41, told friends he was suffering from flu-like symptoms – unaware his body was already in crisis. Days later, he collapsed and was rushed to hospital in Guayaquil

A much-loved telly presenter has tragically passed away after mistaking the early signs of a heart attack for a mere cold. Emilio Sueños, 41, an Ecuadorian host and model, told pals he was suffering from flu-like symptoms, oblivious to the fact his body was already in crisis.

Days later, he collapsed and was rushed to hospital in Guayaquil, where medics discovered his heart had been severely damaged due to excessive testosterone use.

Doctors revealed his heart had become enlarged as a result of hormone injections he’d been taking to rectify a botched cosmetic procedure. What started as a mild cough rapidly escalated into a life-threatening condition.

Initially, Emilio dismissed the illness. However, his close mate Ivanna Melgar said his health took a sudden turn for the worse in the days leading up to his death, describing that period as “especially difficult”.

She remembered: “From one moment to the next, he started coughing and couldn’t breathe. He sent me audio messages saying it wasn’t the flu, but that he simply couldn’t breathe. He used sick and stressed emojis on his WhatsApp statuses.”

The popular host was taken to Guasmo Sur General Hospital on 1 October and put in intensive care, where doctors diagnosed heart inflammation caused by hormone misuse reports the Express.

According to NeedToKnow, specialists confirmed the testosterone injections had exacerbated his heart failure.

Ivanna explained that the method of administering the hormone made matters worse: “The problem worsened because he injected the hormone into his arm and not his buttocks, due to the presence of biopolymers in that area.

“His heart couldn’t hold up, and one of his lungs was also damaged. They gave him blood transfusions, but they turned into water. They tried to get the hormone out of his body, but they couldn’t.”

Despite urgent medical care, Emilio passed away in hospital. Heartfelt tributes flooded in from admirers and workmates throughout Ecuador, hailing the telly star as “dedicated, cheerful and hardworking”.

One tribute stated: “May God give him eternal rest and he can repatriate so that here in Venezuela can say goodbye to his family, friends and students.”

He was celebrated for his magnetic screen presence and candour about his identity as a proud member of the LGBTQ+ community in his home city of Guayaquil.

Regional outlets reported that the broadcaster had previously discussed his anxieties following cosmetic procedure complications – which pals now suspect may have contributed to his dependence on hormone therapy.

Emilio’s passing has prompted fresh alerts about the risks of unmonitored hormone usage, with medics calling on patients to obtain professional guidance before starting any course of treatment.

A hospital representative confirmed that a comprehensive medical investigation would be conducted to establish the precise cause of his cardiac arrest.
