A teenager has been jailed six years after he raped a 14-year-old girl on a train station platform. Marvin Ogbogbo, now 23, was 17 when he groomed a girl on social media before raping her at a train station in Essex.
The British Transport Police (BTP) launched an investigation after the victim bravely came forward in October 2024. Ogbogbo invited the girl out shopping at Lakeside Shopping Centre in Essex back in 2019 before the two spent the day shopping.
They headed to Chafford Hundred Station so Ogbogbo could return back to London. While waiting for the train on the platform, he led her to a sheltered seating area and repeatedly asked her to sit on his lap before raping her.
He then fled to London on the train leaving her at the station. Five years later the young girl bravely came forward and reported the attack to police.
British Transport Police (BTP) launched a full investigation and Ogbogbo was identified on December 23, 2024. He was arrested at a police station where he was required to attend on a weekly basis as part of bail conditions for another matter.
Bodycam footage captured the moment he was arrested at Barking police station. In the video, a cop can be heard telling Ogbogbo: “You’re currently shown as wanted, ok, for suspicion of a rape that occurred between 1 April and 31 July in 2019.
The officer added: “So at this moment in time you’re under arrest.” Dressed in a black North face coat with his hood up, Ogbogbo looked stunned.
“He cowered in custody when he realised he had been caught for a crime he committed five years ago,” captions on the video shared by BTP stated.
Ogbogbo was found guilty of rape last month following a week-long trial at Isleworth Crown Court. He was sentenced to four years in prison, is required to sign the sex offenders register for life and cannot contact the victim.
Ogbogbo denied the charges and told police he only kissed the girl at the train station in 2019.
British Transport Police’s Detective Constable Jennifer Brown said: “Putting Ogbogbo behind bars for this abhorrent rape is testament to the victim who showed immense bravery in reporting what happened to her.
“Ogbogbo is a vile predator who targeted an underage girl and groomed her for his own sexual gratification. We take every report of sexual violence extremely seriously and will always launch a full investigation no matter how much time has passed.”
