Lois Mallett-Walker, 35, was left horrified and a bit smelly when hundreds of ladybirds invaded her home in Hertfordshire, and she has taken to TikTok to rage over it
A woman has claimed that hundreds of ladybirds have invaded her home – and they’re even urinating on her. Lois Mallett-Walker was left gobsmacked when the insects began covering her walls, curtains, windows and every tiny gap they could find.
“One peed on me and it stank,” the 35-year-old revealed, and added: “There was yellow stained liquid on my hand and it smelt so bad. Around 300 are in the windows, window ceils, under the patio doors and curtains. I love ladybugs but it was far too many in my house for me.”
Lois, who runs a dog event company in Hertfordshire, attempted to relocate as many as she could outdoors but resorted to vacuuming up some of the creatures.
She explained: “I think there was lots of ladybugs sleeping in hibernation for the winter in my window ceils. And then the warmer weather woke them up. There was tons of baby ones too.”
Lois has been fighting off the invasion since Monday. She confessed: “It made me feel like ‘this is a lot’. I was like ‘can you find somewhere else to nest even though you’re totally cute?'”.
“I’ve been finding more today in various places but mostly they have gone back into hibernation stage. Which makes them look dead but they’re not. I tried to release as many as possible but I had to vacuum some up.”
Lois posted footage of the ladybird swarm on TikTok, where it’s amassed more than 29,600 views. The clip shows the beetles covering her walls and doors in droves.
She wrote alongside the post: “Anyone else got invaded by ladybirds?
“I think they was liking in my window doors and then it was so warm they came out of hibernation or something? I love them but this was too much also one let out some liquid on my finger and it STANK!”.
Her post struck a chord with fellow sufferers experiencing identical troubles. One person shared: “I had the same twice this week! So scary.”
Another chimed in: “They’ve had a really good breeding season this year it’s mental.” One frustrated commenter revealed: “It’s driving me insane! I can’t even open my front door or windows.”
Someone else confirmed: “Me! All on the front of my house.”
Another simply stated: “Hundreds outside today.”
