A woman’s body was found in a river in the Scottish Highlands during a search for missing woman Naomi McSorley, 63, whose family have been informed though formal identification is yet to take place

A body has been found during the search for a woman who went missing in the Scottish Highlands. A female body was discovered in the River Foyers at Foyers near Inverness on Thursday around 6.30pm.

Formal identification is still pending, but Police Scotland have informed the family of Naomi McSorley, 63, who was reported missing earlier that day. Ms McSorley was last seen near the B852 in the Highland village on Thursday morning.

The death is currently being treated as unexplained, however, officers have stated there are no suspicious circumstances believed to be involved. A report will be forwarded to the Procurator Fiscal, reports Bristol Live.

A Police Scotland spokesman said: “Around 6.30pm on Thursday, 4 September, 2025, the body of a woman was found in the River Foyers at Foyers, near Inverness.Formal identification has yet to take place but the family of Naomi McSorley, 63, reported missing earlier in the day, has been informed.

The death is being treated as unexplained but there are not believed to be any suspicious circumstances.A report will be sent to the Procurator Fiscal.”

Friends and family of Ms McSorley took to Facebook to express their sadness at the news, as one said: “My prayers go put to family and friends at this sad sad tragic time.”

And another wrote: “So sorry to hear this. My thoughts are with her family and friends through this devastating time.”

A third added: “Oh Noooo. Naomi RIP darling… you were a really lovely friend to me when our girls were little. I am so sad to see this.”
