WARNING, GRAPHIC CONTENT: A woman was found tied up with horrific injuries after an alleged attack at gunpoint – but the police investigation uncovered a bizarre twist
In every woman’s worst nightmare, police were horrified when they found Natalie Greene screaming and crying alone in the woods, her face and body carved with dozens of grisly cuts.
It was a scene from a horror movie – the woman’s hands and legs were bound tight with zip ties, and political slurs were chillingly scrawled across her skin with black marker. Her shirt had been pulled over her head and the words “Trump w****” was written on her stomach. “Federal official is a racist” was etched across her back.
Greene, a former Republican staffer in the US, claimed she was viciously assaulted by three gunmen. She told police that her attackers cut her body, held her down, and threatened to shoot her.
Horrific photos shown in court revealed lacerations all over her neck, face, shoulder and chest. The woman told police she was targeted because of her previous work for the Government.
But in a sickening twist, the law student has now been accused of faking the horror attack, allegedly paying someone $500 (£380) to mutilate her body and then lying to police about the staged assault. Police found that Greene’s and her accomplice’s stories did not match up, the BBC reports. The ex-federal worker has now been charged with conspiracy to falsely report a violent attack and giving false statements to police.
Prosecutors say that on the night of the alleged attack, Greene paid an co-conspirator and frantically rang 911 to report a violent crime in Egg Harbour Township, New Jersey.
It is even claimed in court documents that two days before the plot, Greene drove to Pennsylvania and paid a body modification artist she found on Instagram to make the cuts, according to The Sun.
According to court documents, the police also found a receipt showing Greene had paid $500 (£380) for the cuts to be made on her body. They also allegedly found that Greene’s accomplice had researched “zip ties near me” on a phone just two days before the so-called attack.
Prosecutors say that the woman was taken to a hospital, where she and her accomplice gave police conflicting accounts of what happened and gave dodgy descriptions of the fake assailants.
Greene previously worked for New Jersey Republican Representative Jefferson Van Drew. A spokesperson for his office told the BBC: “We are deeply saddened by yesterday’s news, and while Natalie is no longer associated with the Congressman’s government office, our thoughts and prayers are with her. We hope she’s getting the care she needs.”
On Wednesday, Greene was released on a $200,000 (£152,720) bond. She could face up to 10 years in prison and a $500,000 (£380,170) fine.
Locals in the woman’s hometown were stunned. “At the end of the day we’re talking about a 25-year-old girl, a beautiful girl, whose politics aren’t supposed to reach that level of extreme,” Fiona Tierney, 49, told the New York Post.
“Now she’s got to spend the rest of her life with these scars to remind her of what she did. What, she’s going to the beach wearing a bathing suit with all that on display? She’d never live this down. What kind of a future is that?”
